What is nasal tip aesthetics (tipplasty)?

Tipplasty, or nasal tip surgery, is a procedure that reshapes only the tip of the nose. It is commonly performed for patients with a properly structured nasal bone but who experience issues such as a drooping nose tip, width, asymmetry, prominence of the nostrils, or problems with nose projection (protrusion).

Tipplasty (nasal tip surgery) is a surgical procedure that can be performed by ENT specialists, where shape deformities at the nasal tip are addressed after a medical evaluation. The method of application is determined according to the patient’s needs and the process is planned individually.

When is Nasal Tip Aesthetic Surgery Performed?

Nasal tip aesthetic surgery, or tipplasty, can be applied to address the following conditions during medical evaluation:

  • Nasal tip drooping (nasal tip ptosis)
  • Significantly upward-turned nose tip
  • Wide, round, or bulbous nose tip
  • Incompatibility between the nostrils
  • Even if the general shape of the nose is fine, dissatisfaction with the nasal tip structure
  • Nasal tip deformities following previous rhinoplasty

These conditions can affect the appearance and, in some cases, impact airflow at the nostril level, causing breathing problems. Therefore, it is important to have an evaluation from an ENT specialist and aesthetic surgery perspective.

How is Tipplasty Performed?

Tipplasty surgery is generally performed under local anesthesia or mild sedation. It can be done using either an open or closed technique. During the surgery, only cartilage tissues are manipulated; the nasal bridge or bony structure is usually preserved. This allows for quicker recovery for patients.

After a detailed examination by an ENT specialist, personal planning is made according to the thickness of the nasal skin, cartilage structure, and the patient's facial anatomy. While reshaping the nasal tip, achieving a natural result is a key priority.

How Long Does Nasal Tip Aesthetic Surgery Take?

Tipplasty surgery usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes. Hospital stay may not be necessary, and most patients can return home the same day. Due to the nature of the procedure, the time for returning to social life may vary from person to person. Instead of a cast, tape may often be applied to the nose.

What is the Recovery Process After Nasal Tip Aesthetic Surgery?

  • Swelling and bruising are generally minimal in nasal tip aesthetic surgery.
  • Significant improvement may be observed within the first week.
  • The nose tip may take 3–6 months to fully form.
  • When done with the closed technique, the intervention is performed from inside the nose, leaving no visible external scars.

Is Tipplasty the Same as Rhinoplasty?

No. While tipplasty is focused solely on reshaping the nasal tip, rhinoplasty requires a more comprehensive evaluation, involving the nasal bridge, bone structure, and nasal tip. In some cases, small adjustments to the nasal bridge may also be planned alongside tipplasty. This decision is made following examination and evaluation by the ENT specialist or aesthetic surgeon.

ENT Specialist’s Opinion for Proper Planning

The external appearance and internal structure of the nose must be evaluated as a whole. If there are complaints about breathing, such as nasal septum deviations (deviation) or conditions like adenoids, these can also be addressed during the examination. Therefore, individuals considering nasal tip aesthetics should be evaluated by an ENT specialist.
